Competitive Concentration

Want a lesson in competitive concentration?  Watch a rodeo.

Rodeo competition has many facets, but mental toughness is vital to success.  Concentration means being focused; meeting the challenge; stretching abilities; making conditions work for you.  Athletes must summon strength from within, disregard uncontrollable variables and have the courage to give it their all.

Rodeo is effectively a game of dealing with the unknown.  Athletes must view conditions, not from a perspective of good or bad, but as a matter of fact.  This is how it is and it’s up to them to rise above; turn obstacles into opportunities; determine how to use the situation to their best advantage; concentrate on dealing with the immediate.

Afterwards winners objectively analyze if they did all they could with what they were given or if they left something in the arena.
